Prime Minister Serbia resigns after weeks of mass protests

Prime Minister Milosh Veuvic resigned after weeks of mass protests for a fatal accident at a railway station in the north of the country, which was blamed for government corruption.

The demonstrations arose due to the collapse of the roof of the railway station in Novey Sad, SerbiaThe second largest city, on November 1, killing 15 people. The reverse reaction to the disaster has turned into the greatest challenge of a strong man to the narrow grip of the powerful man, who has been in his position since 2017.

The ceiling collapsed after the renovations to the station by a consortium, led by two Chinese companies that also build a railway between Budapest and Belgrade. Vučević was a close ally of the president, the mayor of Novi Sad when the construction work began.

The pioneering railway project was described by Vučić and Hungarian Prime Minister VikTor Orbán as a symbol of their openness to more Chinese investments in their countries.

The protests at the country have led students who are demanding government accountability for the station’s disaster. They have occupied dozens of universities over the past two months as part of their work. On Friday, tens of thousands of people participated in a general blow to support the student movement.

On Monday, farmers joined the demonstrations and banned the streets in the capital. With the swelling of the protests, Vučić appeared at a late profits with the Prime Minister to resume the dialogue with student leaders, saying, “We need to reduce tensions and start talking to each other.”

“What kind of crisis is a serious problem for our economy. Such a situation in society is not good for anyone.

Vicch also said he was ready to replace half of the government.

On Tuesday, Veuvic said that he and his successor as the mayor of Nouf, Milan đurić, would be reassured, adding that they were answering the demonstrators’ request for government accountability.

“The mayor of Novi Sad and I consider ourselves responsible objectively for what happened in Novi Sad, and we are paying the political price good.”

Public prosecutors have directed 13 people regarding the collapse of the station’s ceiling, including the former Minister of Transport. But student leaders also demanded the full transparency of the investigation, while publishing the seized documents.

The protests were increasingly angry after the arrest of some demonstrators and clashes with supporters of the Serbian Serbian Fojis Party. On Monday, the President offered a complete amnesty for students detained in an attempt to suppress the protests.
