The singer, who was clearly displeased by Stocks, Aitken, and Waterman’s comments about her strong image and sensual lyrics, claimed she was “regressive” and wanted to “shame” while ignoring the fact that she spoke about “self-care” and “body positivity.”

“My message was always clear: If you can’t handle a girl who is confident in her sexuality, don’t come to my shows,” Carpenter said.

“Female artists have been disappointed forever. In the NUGREENS it was Rihanna, in the ’90s it was Britney Spears, in the ’80s it was Madonna — and now it’s me,” Carpenter continued. “It’s completely regressive. It’s like those would-be shamers don’t make comments when I talk about self-care or body positivity or heartbreak, which are all normal things that a 25-year-old goes through.”

The singer added, “They just want to talk about the sexual aspect of my performance.”
