The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Thursday named a chair Andrew Ferguson Authority to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive orders to reduce DEI programs at federal agencies.
The move comes after Ferguson on Wednesday condemned DEI, or diversity, equity and inclusion, programs, calling them “a blight on our institutions.”
“President Trump He promised the American people that he would end this. “He has done so in three stunning executive orders,” Ferguson wrote on On hiring, no DEI programming, it’s over.”

On the same day, Ferguson instituted a series of measures to purge DEI-related initiatives at the FTC. Since some of these issues require a committee vote to end them, Ferguson said the committee will consider a proposal to give him the authority to make the federal agency comply with the president’s orders.

On Thursday, the FTC approved the proposal by a 2-1-2 vote, giving Chairman Ferguson the authority to do so. Commissioners Rebecca K. did not participate. Slaughter and Lena M. Khan in the vote.

Trump issued two other executive actions Tuesday targeting DEI — an executive order to end discrimination in the workplace and higher education through preferences based on race and gender under the guise of DEI and a memo to remove a Biden administration policy that prioritized DEI hiring at the FAA.
