Latest West Ham news

West Ham coach Graham Potter said his side “need to find solutions moving forward” after their 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at the London Stadium at the weekend.

Jean-Philippe Mateta’s brilliant double was enough to secure three points for the Eagles, who have now won three of their last four Premier League matches – a form that has seen them jump to 12th place. Meanwhile, Potter’s Hammers have won just three of their last 10 matches, and currently sit in 14th place.

The Hammers boss is looking for a new number nine.

“In terms of the performance today, it was not a performance that we are very happy with and obviously a result that we are disappointed with because I don’t think we deserved to get anything from the game.” Potter said after the defeat at Palace.

“We have to accept that as much as it’s not nice to hear that, we have to be honest with ourselves and say okay, we need to do better, we need to find a way to be better.” And that’s where the process happens, that’s where the work is. This is what we have to do.”

Update on West Ham’s search for a new striker

West Ham’s biggest problem this season has come in front of goal. Summer signing Niklas Volkrug has spent most of his career at the London Stadium so far injured, with the Germany international making only a handful of appearances in all competitions.

Meanwhile, the club’s all-time top scorer Michail Antonio is expected to miss the remainder of the season after being involved in a horrific car accident. Jarrod Bowen is now out, while Danny Ings, despite his fitness, has scored just one goal in 14 games.

To help solve their problems in front of goal, the Hammers are reportedly looking to land RB Leipzig and Portuguese striker Andre Silva. According to TBR Football website, West Ham have asked Leipzig about signing the 29-year-oldwho now finds himself on the sidelines at Red Bull Arena.

Leipzig coach Christopher Wevel previously described Silva as a great playerwho scored more than 150 goals in his career for club and country, was described as a “proper goalscorer”.

“He is a complete striker. He can finish with both feet, is strong in the air and technically gifted.”

The Bundesliga’s official website also once compared Silva to West Ham hero Freddy Kanoute, who scored 33 goals in three-and-a-half seasons with the Hammers between 2000 and 2003.

“With his composure and nose for poaching in the opposition penalty area, it is no wonder Silva drew comparisons with club legend Freddy Kanoute during the first part of his one-season loan with Sevilla,” reads a clip on the website. “He’s not the quickest on the football line, but it’s his quick thinking that makes him an effective striker, interspersed with an uncanny knack for being in the right place at the right time.”
