Severance Season 2 makes Lumon even scarier with the addition of one crew

The surreal, dystopian office environment and depersonalization process that traps the “inside” workers there forever while the “outside” enjoy a life devoid of drudgery is just the beginning. Everything from Mr. Melchik’s (Trammell Tillman) eerily relaxed smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes to the carrot-and-stick treatment of the cut-off staff, where the payoffs range from the utterly disappointing to the horrifying absurdity of a waffle party, indicates that there’s a lot more going on than just… Simple, highly confidential office work.

The Season 2 premiere, titled “Hello, Ms. Cobel,” reveals that Lumon has a lot of horrors in store. With Milchick now seemingly promoted to Mrs. Coppell’s (Patricia Arquette) old position of running the cut floor, Mark S. (Adam Scott), Hailey R. (Brett Lauer), Dylan G. (Zach Cherry), and Irving B. John Turturro) Make an unwelcome return to Severance’s office. – They discover that their new supervisor, Miss Huang (Sarah Bok), seems too young to work on a top-secret project.

While Bok herself was born in 2006, Hwang is clearly meant to be much younger. By wearing the character’s symbolic school uniform and Mark immediately noticing that she is a child, it appears that Lomon is now engaging in child labor.

The revelation that the new authority figure on the Cut-off floor is an eerily quiet kid leaves every Cut-off employee appropriately panicked, and it doesn’t exactly help that it seems like Miss Huang – just like Mr. Melchik – hasn’t cut off herself. During the introductory ball game, she reveals that this is her first day on the job, and that her previous job was as a crossing guard. This seems to mean that Lomon recruited her directly from the school environment.

So, what does an uncut kid do in a prestigious supervisor position in what appears, for all intents and purposes, to be the single most important department in Lomon? What’s more, is it just her or are there other kids working for Lumon as well, as the episode also reveals that the company operates over 200 locations? Presumably, the “separation” will answer these mysteries at some point, but for now, this seems to be the thing that would cause more buzz than the separation itself if the public found out.

In the first season of “Severance,” we discover that Lumon Industries has aspirations to bring the titular operation to a large and perhaps global scale, for reasons that are unclear. The revelation in “Hello, Ms. Cobel” that the company is not only targeting the public, but is actually recruiting a child to oversee its flagship project, seems to lead to a terrifying revelation later on.
