Trinamool MP (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra took to social media last night to express her frustration with food delivery service Swiggy after receiving spoiled ice cream she ordered. In a tweet sent at around 10:15pm on January 16, the 50-year-old politician criticized the service for serving “overpriced” Minus Thirty mini ice cream sticks that were inedible.
“Sorry Swiggy – you have to up your game. It is unacceptable that I ordered an overpriced Minus Thirty ice cream and it arrived spoiled and inedible. I expect a refund or replacement as soon as possible,” Moitra tweeted.
The TMC leader revealed that she ordered a total of 10 ice creams for INR 1,220. Swiggy’s customer care team responded immediately and dialed her order number to address the issue.
Moitra’s complaint quickly sparked amusement on social media, with many users pointing out previous controversies she had sparked, including a high-profile incident involving an expensive handbag. The MP herself joined in on the humor, joking that her ice cream was “Hermès flavoured, with a Bobbi Brown topping”.
Some even criticized her for posting this query on “Expensive hobbies.”
However, she also took some time to speak out about the trolling she faced on Platform
The incident sparked a broader discussion about customers’ experiences with delivery platforms. Many users have shared their negative experiences regarding refunds from e-commerce and food delivery services.
“Happened to me twice with a Minus Thirty order. It’s frustrating, but I understand the challenges with frozen deliveries,” one user shared, while another advised against ordering items that can thaw quickly.
