In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rocket Raccoon’s (Bradley Cooper) story has come to an end, having ended beautifully in “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.” However, the story of Doctor Doom is just beginning, when… Robert Downey Jr. returns to Marvel to play a very different kind of Iron Man in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday.
However, Marvel Comics is bringing this unlikely duo together in a special 40-page one-shot: “Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon” #1 – Possibly Publisher The wildest crossover since “Aliens Vs Avengers” last year – and Marvel shared an exclusive preview of the issue with /Film.
“Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon” #1 by J. Michael Straczynski, creator 1994 space opera TV show “Babylon 5” And a prolific comic book writer. “JMS” (as he is often nicknamed) just finished a run on “Captain America.” (He certainly also wrote “Amazing Spider-Man” #36, the oft-parodied issue in which Death wails in the wake of the September 11 attacks.)
The issue is illustrated by artist Will Robson with cover artist Gary Frank.
The synopsis for “Doom & Rocket Raccoon” #1 reads:
“JMS unites unlikely duos from across the MARVEL universe! J. Michael Straczynski brings his stunning character work to beloved Marvel characters big and small in a series of thrilling one-shots! First up: Doctor Doom and Rocket, drawn with incomparable will. Robson does the one thing he doesn’t want to Ever Done: What awaits Rocket in Latveria? Journey through space and time in the Mighty Marvel Way!
This isn’t the first time Doom and Rocket have met. Back inside “Guardians of the Galaxy” #14 for 2021 (by Al Ewing and Juan Frigeri), briefly swapped bodies; Doom naturally didn’t enjoy the indignity of being cornered like a rodent, while said rodent walked in front of him in proper form. What will their next meeting be like? Check out Gary Frank’s cover, where they share a toast while Rocket hides something behind his back and Dom puts his finger on the mad raccoon button to get a clue.
Doctor Doom and Rocket Racoon are Marvel’s most unlikely team-up
The issue begins with a summary page, explaining the basics of who Doom and Rocket are and how they came to be that way.
Once the actual story begins, it begins on a “dark and stormy night” in Doom’s Castle in Doomstadt, the capital of his personal kingdom of Latveria. From here, it becomes clear that the issue will not take itself seriously. Doom performs an experiment, only to have his head explode – not to worry, because Which It was just a doombot.
Doom goes to greet the guest at the door, only to look around and see nothing. When he looks under He sees a rocket in the rain, and it appears to have crashed in Latveria after some problems with the ship. This page reveals the title text: “Thirteen Days of Death!” Is Doom about to deal with a raccoon that won’t leave?
“Doom & Rocket Raccoon” #1 will be released in print and digital on January 22, 2025.
