The next US president will put measures in place to prevent TikTok from going dark, as a potential ban looms, Mike Waltz, Donald Trump’s incoming national security adviser, has said. A law requiring ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, to either sell its operations in the United States or face a ban, took effect on Sunday, unless it is overturned by the US Supreme Court. Meanwhile, many of the app’s 170 million US users are flocking to RedNote, another Chinese social media platform.
