Skeleton Crew ended on a cliffhanger that left us wanting more

The first season of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew It’s over now and we’re a little on the fence about it. On the one hand, the ending gave us everything we wanted and hoped to see. Basically, the kids used everything they learned on their adventure Beat Judd and his pirates at their own game. We got it, we loved it.

The episode also left us with several lingering unanswered questions, which would be great if we were sure there would be more. But we don’t know that yet. So, even though the season finale was good, we’re a little worried that its incredibly abrupt ending could turn out to be what it is. Notorious as well assistant or The Rise of Skywalker. Hopefully that’s not the case, but let’s talk about that below.

The end for Skeleton crew (titled “The Real Good Guys”) It picks up where the previous episode left off: Good with his lightsaber blazing, standing in front of the children and their families. They still think he’s the Republic’s envoy and it’s okay for them to think so, which is why he sends robots home with all the kids to watch them and tell him if they accuse him.

Wim, KB and Neel return home while Jod takes Fern and her mother to see the Superintendent. We’ve been hearing about this AtvAttin supervisor since the first episode of the show, and now Jude needs to meet him because he’s the only one authorized to allow his second ship to cross the barrier and reach the planet.

But a supervisor is not a person. It’s a robot – which Fern’s mother Fara seemed to already know about. It’s a very smart robot though. He knows all about the kids leaving and Fern’s academic talents. She also knows that Jude is lying about something because, according to his database, all Jedi are traitors (Palpatine really covered all the bases, didn’t he?). After learning that he was captured, Jude destroyed the Overseer and cut off power throughout the planet. It affects the robots as well, so it allows Wim, Neil, and KB to get together and try to clean up the mess.

When pirates descend on the planet and immediately begin wreaking havoc, Wim, Neil and KP jump into action. After a very impressive series of fast bike action, they formulate a plan: get off the planet in Onyx carbuncle, Get a message to Kh’ymmAnd ask her to send the New Republic to eliminate the pirates. The only problem is that the ship is stuck and they need to restore power to get it loose. This means it’s time for the showdown we’ve all been waiting for: Wim and Jude.

Wim goes to the tower to confront Judd and lies to him by saying that they have already contacted the New Republic. Jude doesn’t believe him, but he also doesn’t see Wim’s father, Wendel, sneaking in during the distraction and turning on the power. When this happens, Wim and Vern try to hold off Judd while KB fires on the ship. The pirates pursue her but with a little help from Neil, she is able to escape beyond the barrier. KB sends the message and Khem says the good guys are on the way. But they still have a barrier to deal with.

It’s time to choose. Leave the barrier up, and potentially serve under Judd and the Pirates, but also remain happily hidden from the rest of the war-torn galaxy – or remove the barrier, get rid of Judd and the Pirates, and then assimilate back into the galaxy. Jude clearly wants the former scenario where he remains rich and powerful, so he fights Verne, Wim, and their parents simultaneously in a tense, emotionally charged sequence.

During the scene, we learn that Judd was a poor, unhoused boy, who was also discovered by an unlucky Jedi. She started training him, which is why he knows how to do some little things with the Force, but before it could go any further, Order 66 happened and the Jedi were killed before his eyes. So he came from nothing, had the opportunity to be something, and it was brutally taken away from him. It explains a lot

Jude does his best, and although the parents aren’t completely sold on the idea of ​​starting, they eventually clear the barrier. Judd surrendered, New Republic swooped in (including an effective B-wing for the first time in live action), and the day was saved. Wim and Vern rush to make sure KB (who has returned to the planet after taking out the message) is okay, with Wim even calling out to Judd almost like an olive branch. But Jude ignores him and walks away, and the last thing we see of the pirate is him looking at his ship as it collides with the ground, with a small smile on his face. Is he proud of the children? Are you already formulating a new plan? We don’t know.

Of course, Neil, Wim and Fern make it to KB and she’s fine. “Did we win?” she asks in an absolutely perfect moment. Yes. Yes the kids won they saved Attin but they also changed him forever. Vern jokes that Wim probably doesn’t have to make assessments anymore as he looks up at the sky, watches the X-Wings fly by and the arrival of a frigate, and thinks about all the possibilities the galaxy holds. No, we believe Wim is destined for things beyond Aten. He’s on his way to becoming the hero he always wanted to be.

From there, we’ll resume work a few weeks later with… no, we’re kidding. The show ends with Wim’s idea of ​​heroism and hope, which is beautiful but a bit surprising. What happened to Jude? Where did he go? How do the people of Atin feel about their way of life changing for generations overnight and without their consent? How will they deal with this decision that occurs because of these four children? None of this is necessary to the plot, but, you know, you would have liked to see more of it. More closures. Maybe we will then Skeleton crew It gets a second season, or the characters appear in another series. But it leaves the slightest bit of disappointment lingering at the end of an obviously great episode.
