Smart locks We have been working contactless all year, from Palm reading technology to Increased compatibility with Apple Home keys. But here in CES This week, Schlage is one of the very few brands heading in a different direction with what’s called ultra-wideband, or UWB, a frequency that specializes in tracking a target’s precise location.
For example, other hands-free Bluetooth unlocking methods can unlock your door earlier when you start approaching your home Or apartment. This can make people nervous or lead to fears that the door was never closed to begin with. To make the process even smoother, Schlage’s particularly smooth-looking Sense Pro increases accuracy with UWB.
As a result, the Schlage smart key can quickly connect to an authorized phone and calculate its speed, trajectory and movement. In theory, this allows the lock to be opened only when the operator reaches the door, and not before or with annoying delays. Whether you’re walking around with a tired toddler or rushing to get groceries indoors in the rain, the lock is designed to respond at just the right time.
Schlage is planning a new app for 2025 as well.
The Sense Pro also works with Matter, supports NFC lock/unlock and includes a keypad for people who want to switch to more limited access options. Schlage plans to update its app in early 2025 as well, with a focus on making it simpler and more informative at a glance.
If the prospect of a UWB target doesn’t impress you, Schlage throws in an additional lock, an access lock. Although Schlage Arrive doesn’t have any location tricks, it does come with a built-in feature Support wifi So you don’t need an additional hub to connect it and manage access codes from anywhere.
If you’re interested in Schlage’s location-sensing technology, you’ll have to wait until later in 2025 for more details. Schlage hasn’t announced a firm release window or price yet, but we’ll be sure to update you as we learn more.
