Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has once again stunned the cricket world, but this time, not with the ball, but with his fiery words to manage the current Indian cricket team. Mohammed Al-Shami hinted at the conspiracy behind his exclusion from India’s squad for the Australia tour.
The veteran Indian fast bowler has been overlooked for the upcoming three-match ODI and T20I series In Australia, citing fitness and appearance concerns. Now, “Shame” has revealed the communication gap between him and those in charge of selection and team management in a new blow at the research center.
They did not contact me about fitness: Muhammad Al-Shami
The Bangladeshi player has categorically denied all the fitness rumours. Al-Shami explained that he is ready for the match and is eager to participate. Interestingly, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has named Shami in Bengal’s squad for the upcoming 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, starting from October 15, which proves that he is a perfect fit.
“The Indian team has not approached me regarding fitness. I am not the one to tell them about my fitness – they have to ask me. If I can play four-day cricket, why can’t I play a 50-over match? If I am not fit, I will be in the NCA and not play here in the Ranji Trophy,” Mohammed Shami was quoted as saying by India Today.
Ajit Agarkar has explained why Mohammed Shami was not selected for the Australia tour
Shami’s findings sparked new controversy, especially after Agarkar offered a completely different explanation for his exclusion. The Indian chief selector recently told reporters that there are no new updates on Shami’s fitness, and that he has not played much domestic cricket recently – just one match for Bengal and one in the Duleep Trophy – which is why he was not selected.
Agarkar explained that the Indian selectors want to see the Indian player play more regularly before considering him again for national selection.
He recently said, “I don’t have any update. He has played in the Duleep Trophy. But in the last two-three years, he has not played much cricket. I think he has played one match for Bengal and one in the Duleep Trophy. As a performer, we know what he can do, but he has to play cricket.”

It’s not my responsibility: Mohammed Shami on Ajit Agarkar’s fitness report in tears
Responding to Agarkar’s comments, Shami bluntly said that this is not his job. “In terms of giving updates, it’s not my responsibility to give or ask for them. It’s not my job to give an update on my fitness. My job is to go to the NCA, prepare, play matches. Giving an update is not my responsibility,” Revsportz quoted him as saying.
The 34-year-old last played for India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He finished the tournament as one of the standout wicket-takers, but despite his solid performance, he was left out of the squad due to fitness issues.
With a long domestic season ahead of him and a crucial Test series against England in early 2026, Shami now has the perfect stage to silence his critics.
