DJI Mini 5 Pro review: A heavier upgrade to your drone

I inquired about the weight, and a DJI spokesperson sent me the following statement: “The DJI Mini 5 Pro build weighs 249.9 grams. Due to manufacturing tolerances, the actual weight of the product may vary slightly within ±4 grams. Slight weight fluctuations are normal. We recommend complying with local regulations when UK users operate the drone, which can be found here“.

The company refers to it as a “drone weighing about 250 grams” – a term I’ve never encountered before from DJI. Honestly, it seems a bit dodgy. This isn’t just a pedantic snoop on a few grams. I live in the UK, and the 250g threshold determines whether you can fly a drone in parks, on beaches, in towns and cities, near people, and in countless other scenarios without additional certification. Previous Mini models have been just below this threshold, and it seems like an oversight during the design process to not keep this model comfortably under it as well.

However, there is good news: with the UK’s drone rules changing at the start of 2026, I don’t have long to wait for the (interestingly, much larger) Mini 5 Pro to be released. DJI Air 3S) Flying in built-up areas, public parks and in close proximity to people becomes completely legal.

However, the news for US-based pilots is not so cheerful. As with all of its recent products, DJI has not officially launched the Mini 5 Pro in the US. You can blame Imminent DJI banwhich is a real shame, because, weight aside, this is a great camera drone.

Big camera upgrades

The slight increase in weight of the Mini 5 Pro comes with real benefits. The main improvement is the camera, which now features a 1-inch, 12-megapixel sensor (or 50-megapixel in Quad Bayer terminology), which is a big upgrade from the smaller sensors on previous Mini models. Image quality approaches DJI’s aerial range, which is great for a drone of this size. You’re getting professional-level image quality in a pocketable drone.
