OpenAI is known for Artificial intelligence modelswhich so far exists mainly on cloud servers, its website and in its applications for personal computers and mobile devices.
However, the company is not limiting its ambitions to the software field: Today on deadposted a message announcing that the company is hiring employees for it Roles of first hardware robots.
This includes an energy efficiency sensor engineer to “help us design the sensor array for our robots,” and a robotics mechanical design engineer to create “gears, motors, actuators, and linkages for the robots.”
The listings also include a description of the new effort:
“Our robotics team is focused on unlocking general-purpose robots and pushing toward AG – Level of intelligence in dynamic real-world settings. Working across the entire model range, we integrate cutting-edge hardware and software to explore a wide range of robotic form factors. “We strive to seamlessly integrate high-level AI capabilities with physical constraints.”
Kalinowski herself announced her appointment to OpenAI A little more than Two months ago “To drive robotics and consumer devices.”
Previously, OpenAI was reportedly working on hardware with the former Apple chief designer Jony IveThe company has partnered with robotics startup Figure to provide models that will power the latter’s humanoid robots.
However, Kalinowski’s new post and job listings signal the company’s riskiest and largest investment in building out its robotics division to date, and may finally mean it’s competing with the format.
However, this wouldn’t be a new place for OpenAI, since it also competes with and takes investment money from Microsoft.
