India completed a dominant 2-0 series win over the West Indies with a seven-wicket win in the second Test in Delhi.

KL Rahul’s unbeaten 58 and Sai Sudharsan’s 39 off 76 balls had India chasing 121 for victory before lunch to give Shubman Gill his first series win as captain.

India wrapped up the series opener in Ahmedabad within three days and dominated the second Test by amassing 518-5 before the announcement.

West Indies collapsed for 248 in the first innings but after being forced to follow on, they responded with a spirited effort in the second innings.

Inspired by centuries from John Campbell and Shai Hope, West Indies scored 390 to extend the match to the final day.

India resumed their chase on the fifth day with a score of 63-1 and needed just an hour to reach the target, although West Indies snatched two wickets with brilliant catches.

Captain Roston Chase removed Sudharsan, with Hope diving low in the slips, while Gill (13) miscued a shot from Rose, and Justin Greaves raced from halfway to make a swirling catch.

It was the final over, as Rahul hit a winning boundary to seal India’s victory.

Gil relishes the first series win

India Captain Shubman Gill: “Captainship is a really big honor, I’d say I’m used to it.

“Managing all the players and leading this team is a great honour. It’s about making the right choices based on game situations and I try to make the choice that has the best odds.”

Positives in defeat for West Indies

West Indies captain Ruston Chase: “The positive thing for us in this match is that Campbell and Hope played well and scored hundreds.

“We hit 100 for the first time in a long time and took the game to the fifth day. We were trying to find ways to hit 80 and came up with ideas to play spin.

“We have some of the best players, and we have to use the experience from here as a starting point and perform well in the future.”
