Sai Sudharsen reveals Team India’s stance on his future

Young batsman Sai Sudharsen revealed his happiness at winning his first Test series with the Indian team and highlighted his inspiring journey with the team during 5 matches so far in his career. He also hinted at his future role as India’s next No. 3 player in red-ball cricket.

India made their strong return to the longest format of the game after Gautam Gambhir faced initial criticism as his tactics were a complete disaster in the red-ball format. India were knocked out in the WTC final for the first time in 2025, but then came Shubman Gill.

Named captain at the start of the WTC tournament, the Indian youngster has led by example, scoring goals and showing composure as well as aggression, when needed. Gil has developed into a great character with the Captain’s squad.

“I have learned a lot in these five matches and I am looking forward to improving on that,” Sai Sudharsen said.

Under the shadow of Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir, Gujarat Titans batsman Sai Sudharsan made his Test debut in England after his promising run in IPL 2025. However, the batsman’s first series did not bring much success. The skipper backed him in the next series against West Indies and Sudharsin, though he did not play his best, he looked confident this time.

The young left-hander expressed his desire to contribute more to his country after making a major contribution in India’s win over West Indies in the second Test match.

“To be honest, it feels really good. After a good series in which we fought them (in England), to come back to India and win the series is special,” Sai Sudharsen said.

He admitted that he has learned a lot in the five matches he has played so far in his Test career, and his increased efficiency has also been reflected in his batting, with the southpaw managing to score 87 and 39 across the two innings against the West Indies in Delhi.

“I’ve learned a lot in these five matches, and I’m looking forward to improving on that and obviously giving more to the team. Understanding the role, understanding what the number 3 should do, learning to take responsibility and bat in a risk-free way (in what he learns in the future),” he added.

After sharing his learning experiences from the England tour as well as the recent matches against West Indies, Sai Sudharsen turned to boasting about his courage and determination. He cited the hard blow he suffered to the chest after being hit by a traveling ball from the bat of John Campbell.

The ball remained low and yet Campbell continued to sweep. Hence it is clear that nothing went according to Sudarsan’s ideas. He also thanked his fortune because he was saved this time.

“I was very clear that he was not going to sweep (in the catch to dismiss John Campbell in the first innings), the wicket was down and I knew he was not going to play the sweeping shot, so I was very brave enough, you know, to maintain my position. I was very lucky there,” Sudharsen was quoted during the post-match interview.

Finally, Sai Sudharsen went on to praise his teammate and Gujarat Titans captain, Shubman Gill. Sudharsan played a lot of cricket alongside Gill in the IPL and praised his abilities as a batsman and as a captain of the team.

“I have played a lot with Shophi (Shubman Gill). I think the way he leads the team, the way he gives belief to the players, is really great. I look forward to getting more opportunities,” Sudharsen concluded.

Furthermore, reports indicated that Sai Sudharsen had the support of Commander Gill, who had shown great faith in his abilities, despite his poor returns.
