Wales coach Craig Bellamy said he is relishing the challenge of taking on Europe’s biggest teams after Belgium beat his team 4-2 in a World Cup qualifier in Cardiff.

Wales were taking the lead through Joe Rodon’s header when Ethan Ampadu was penalized for handling Charles De Kittilari’s shot in the 17th minute.

Kevin De Bruyne equalized, Thomas Meunier and De Bruyne scored a second penalty kick – after a clear handball from Jordan James – and Leandro Trossard added more goals for Belgium, while Nathan Brodhead scored the second goal for Wales.

Wales are now four points behind Belgium in the group and look set to secure a place in the qualifiers.

“We wanted first place because we’re right up front,” Bellamy said.

“But I also realize where we are and what the Nations League (winning their group last year) has brought us.

“There is another opportunity to be able to reach this major tournament.

“I honestly love playing with these top teams. It’s so good, because sometimes your heart is in your mouth and you’re really living on the edge.

“I saw a lot today and I feel like we can get close to that. Obviously we asked to continue improving and changing.”
