Lamont Roach used a cryptic message on X to remind his users that his previous prediction of a world title shot at 140 has come true, after Gervonta Davis left him high and dry.
Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) will get a chance to challenge Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) for the interim WBC light welterweight title on December 6 on Amazon at Prime Video PPV. The event will be held at Frost Bank Center, San Antonio, Texas.
Lessons from Rollie’s hit
Lamont, 30, is optimistic for now, but he could cry crocodile tears if Cruz defeats him the way Rolando “Rollie” Romero did on March 30, 2024. He dismantled Rollie, beating him in broad daylight with an eight-round knockout. If Roach loses this fight, it will be back to square one for him. He will return to 135 after the loss and will not be in an ideal position to fight for another world title.
Roach’s prophecy comes true
Just remember what I told you…it has come true

If Roach earns the interim WBC belt from “Pitbull,” he will have the option of fighting the winner of the Nov. 22 fight between WBC 140-pound champion Subriel Mathias and Dalton Smith or returning to No. 135 to challenge Shakur Stevenson for the WBC title. Stevenson has already said he will face him after he fights Teofimo Lopez in early 2026 for the WBC 140-pound belt.
Aside from a questionable 12-round split decision defeat to “Mexican Loma” Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela last year in May, “Pitbull” has looked impressive, winning his last two fights against Angel Ferrero and Omar Salcedo, two former Bucks. If Cruz shows the same level as he did against Rhule, it will be a long night for Roach.
Roach will likely try to outmaneuver Cruz the way “Rayo” Valenzuela did, because he doesn’t have the punching power or inside game to rival him. He has a three-foot step back from Shakur that he uses to escape pressure. However, Roach prefers to get behind a high guard, throwing arm punches with his amateur style of scoring.
