Nick Kyrgios recently accused the ATP of “protecting” Jannik Sinner during his doping saga. The Australian claimed that the federation’s senior management is made up almost entirely of Italians and that they reserve preferential treatment for the former world number one.

Sinner tested positive for Clostebol, a banned substance, twice in March 2024. However, the failed tests were not made public until August of that year, causing many to worry about the transparency of the process. The four-time Grand Slam champion was eventually ruled to have “no intention to cheat” and was banned for three months before returning to his winning ways.

“He’s the number one player in the world (when he tested positive) and there’s no doubt that he’s a great player and he’ll continue to play this sport for 10 to 15 years with Alcaraz. So I mean it’s clear they’re somewhat protective of him. I mean the CEO and all the important people in the ATP are all Italian. And also the whole story for me is bullseye.”

Despite WADA saying that Jannik Sinner bore no significant fault as a result of his positive tests, Kyrgios has repeatedly shown his dissatisfaction with the way the case has been handled over the past year.

While Nick Kyrgios has often criticized Yannick Siner Because of his failed drug tests, the Australian accepts that the former world number one is one of the most talented players tennis has seen in recent years.

During his time on the UNSCRIPTED by Josh Mansour podcast, Kyrgios stated that Sinner will go down in history as one of the best tennis players of all time, saying:

“All said and done, he’s going to be one of the best players to ever play. I played against him and it was an incredibly close game and I thought to myself ‘This kid is going to be an unbelievable king.’ So I thought you were good enough to do it on your own merit.

Nick Kyrgios and Jannik Sinner played each other in 2022 in a round of 16 encounter at the ATP Masters 1000 Miami. Sinner won this match 7-6 (3), 6-3.
