It’s no secret that Ruben Amorim is under pressure at Manchester United, although he is expected to stay on as manager for the time being. However, he could be sacked if there is no improvement in his form over the coming weeks, which has led to ties with the managers.

Oliver Glasner is among those who have attracted interest from Old Trafford, and will be the Crystal Palace manager as well Equally keen to take over from Amorim. This point has now been brought home.

talking to Football from the insideMick Brown has hinted that Glasner is not very happy at Crystal Palace, although Steve Parish recently confirmed that. The German is in talks about a new contract.

“We all know Palace want to keep Glasner. The way the chairman put it – ‘our positions have to be compatible’ – you read into it as the manager demanding things the club wasn’t necessarily doing. He wants to keep his best players and wants the board to complement that by adding more depth and more quality in the transfer market.

“It’s a test of the Palace hierarchy, weighing their ambitions and seeing if they are willing to give him what he needs to continue this journey. Too often, in my experience, owners and presidents can be too focused on the desire to make a profit and prioritize finances over the club’s ambitions.

“If that is the case here, it is unlikely that the manager will want to stay, because they will not be able to keep up with the ambitions and progress he wants to achieve. If he then gets the chance to move to a club that can match his aspirations, they cannot blame him if they are not willing to do so.

But in the end it is up to Palace, it is a test of their ambitions and if they want to keep Glasner they have to give him what he wants and that is support in the transfer market.

It remains to be seen how Glasner’s situation develops over the coming weeks/months. He may be the candidate to be the next Manchester United manager, but for now he is still at Crystal Palace.
