India finally achieved a massive breakthrough when Mohammed Siraj scored at the perfect moment, sending Shai Hope back to the pavilion after a brilliant century, on the fourth day of the ongoing second and final Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The decisive wicket came immediately after former Indian cricketer and commentator Akash Chopra predicted a breakthrough while on air with Parthiv Patel and Anil Kumble. Chopra sensed a wicket at 83.4 overs and, just one ball later, sent Mohammed Siraj out for India.

Hope received a standing ovation from the West Indies crowd and dressing room as he returned to the pavilion. Mohammed Siraj, on the other hand, celebrated in a signature ‘Siuu CR7’ style of celebration, as he got the big wicket that India had been chasing, and they finally got the momentum they needed.

India lost the review as Tevin Imlach escaped a Mohammed Siraj delivery

A few overs later, Mohammed Siraj again created the opportunity for India when Tevin Imlach was hit on the pads by his delivery. The ball hit a low pitch, but the impact was sliding down the leg side. Indian captain Shubman Gill decided to review the on-field umpire’s decision on a possible LBW after insistence from fielder Siraj and wicket-keeper-batsman Dhruv Gurel.

However, the review was not in India’s favour. Replays confirmed that the ball missed the stumps and slid down the leg side. India lost the review, but in the 90th over, left-arm pacer Kuldeep Yadav made sure Imlach had come a long way back to the dugout this time.

Kuldeep dismissed Tevin Imlach for 12. The delivery was on the shorter side but remained very straight, and Imlach was beaten due to lack of bounce, which resulted in him hitting his pads. The Indian players immediately appealed the ruling, and the referee raised his finger. Imlach revived the call, and replays confirmed that the ball bowled down the line had hit the pads perfectly and would have hit the stumps.

West Indies currently lead by just 28 runs, but they have managed to escape an innings defeat to India in the ongoing Delhi Test. Now, India need five more wickets to restrict them low to end the match on day four; Otherwise, an event on Day 5 appears to be on the cards.

For the first time in 13 years, India will bat in the second over after enforcing the follow-on. The rare situation comes after India pursued West Indies in the ongoing Delhi Test.
