“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” concludes its run after five seasons And 50 episodes. While fans of the show may be upset to learn that it won’t continue indefinitely, they do know that the five-season plan makes perfect sense. For example, in the “Star Trek” universe, Federation starships are known to accept five-year missions, after which their crews leave their posts and transfer to other ships.

Second, “Strange New Worlds” serves as a prequel to the original “Star Trek” series that took place just a few years earlier on the same ship, the USS Enterprise, and shares multiple characters. Hence, “Strange New Worlds” will eventually overlap with the timeline of the ’60s show we all know and love. Five years is all we were going to get from this series.

However, is there a way to get more “Strange New Worlds?” Some have diplomatically suggested that we could get a follow-up movie about the show’s characters. It’s one of the best modern “Star Trek” series, so why not give it a very long finale? Early in the series’ development, there was even Plan a two-hour “Strange New Worlds” movie. Why not revive it?

There are no longer plans to make such a film, but Strange New Worlds directors Henry Alonzo Myers and Akiva Goldsman have since stated (just for fun) that the film will definitely focus on Captain Pike (Anson Mount). talking to SFX MagazineGoldsman admitted that the film will not happen for two reasons. First, it’s out of his hands and can only be dictated by the new head of Paramount/Skydance, David Ellison. Ellison is clearly a Trekkie, but that doesn’t mean he’ll greenlight anything that flies his way. He probably gets pitched a lot. Heck, I even have an offer for him, if he’s willing to hear it.

Strange New Worlds was focused on Captain Pike

However, Morrisseau became more fond of television than he previously thought. The writer, mind you, is best known for his high-profile studio movie scripts; He wrote Batman & Robin, won an Oscar for A Beautiful Mind, and dozens of others. But these days he likes television more because he can change genres. He also hopes that “Strange New Worlds” will continue indefinitely and that the film will be shown. But then again, he told SFX Magazine, “That’s not going to happen but by the way, if someone wanted to spend movie money on us, we wouldn’t argue, would we, Henry?”

“no!” Myers agreed before clarifying:

“(…) I think this is going to be a story about Captain Pike. That’s what everyone wants. The fun of doing a TV show is that you lean on everyone. That’s the thing I’m going to miss. I mean, I love movies, but that’s the thing I’m going to miss when you get it from TV.”

So, a Myers and Goldsman film would really be a step down. They sure love Captain Pikeand they could easily write a story about him, but they prefer the group approach, giving individual episodes to other members of the “Strange New Worlds” team as well. Again, they know how they’re going to make a movie, but both Myers and Goldsman seem unsure if they actually want to do it.

Goldsman concluded by emphasizing that he would be happy to continue in “Strange New Worlds” if Paramount gave him the opportunity:

“We’ll keep making them until they stop us. We’ll go boldly until they tell us to sit boldly.”

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” is streaming on Paramount+.
