One of those big moments came on the first drive, where they went 15 plays down the field, killing off nearly 10 full minutes off the first quarter clock going on fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line. Of course, Dan Campbell’s Lions were going for the goal near the goal line, but there was some deception.

Quarterback jared gove, Originally under center, he moved left and David Montgomery threw a pass to him. Goff initially wobbled, but was able to regain control and get into the end zone for an impressive touchdown. However, after deliberation, officials decided that Goff had never been appointed and it was a sign of illegal movement. Jake Betts had to kick a field goal instead for a 3-0 lead.

Patrick Mahomes, meanwhile, made sure to respond with a touchdown, and he did so much faster than the Lions’ opening drive. He found Xavier Worthy for his first touchdown of the season, although Harrison Butker was wide for his extra point, keeping the score at 6-3.

The Lions were able to find the end zone on the next drive as Jameson Williams, who has been quiet in recent weeks despite the winning streak, fought off several Chiefs tacklers for a 22-yard score for six points.

Detroit was able to get the Chiefs to turn the ball over on downs, and had the opportunity to go on the road. But Goff’s fourth-and-2 pass from the Kansas City 44-yard line never found itself safe in the hands of Amon-Ra St. Brown despite their strong connection. The momentum quickly shifted in the Chiefs’ favor, and Mahomes used it all to take the lead.

This time, Mahomes rushed for his fourth touchdown of the season, held the option on a read and scored with 37 seconds left.

With the Chiefs getting the ball to start the second half, it was difficult for Campbell’s crew to absorb that touchdown, and Detroit found itself in an even bigger hole when the third quarter began.

Mahomes was methodical when play resumed, finding Hollywood Brown for its first touchdown of the second half for a 20-10 lead. The Lions managed to cut the deficit to three when the fourth quarter began, with Sam Laporta curling in a stunning one-handed goal to pick up six points.

But, just when it looked like the Lions were starting to get going again, Mahomes paid the price for their defense. It was once again Brown who found himself wide open on third and short near the goal line.

After Butker added a field goal to make it 30-17, the Lions needed a miracle to come back from that deficit with just 2:26 left on the clock. But, once again, they couldn’t connect on fourth-and-short, which ended their hopes.
