Several African countries are on track to book their place in next summer’s World Cup finals.
We are already set to see Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia in the tournament, and a few other countries have had the chance to book their ticket in the final round of qualifying.
Mohamed Salah’s Egypt had already qualified, but wanted to beat Guinea Bissau either way.
Read on to see how the best of the best happened Sunday night.
Kudus leads Ghana to the World Cup
Ghana secured their qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Comoros in Kumasi, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Mohamed Kuddus early in the second half.
After a cautious start for 45 minutes in which neither side was able to achieve a breakthrough, the hosts came out with renewed purpose after the start of the second half.
Just three minutes after the start of the second half, Thomas Partey passed a smart pass to Kudos, who touched it before shooting with his right foot into the top of the net.
Comoros fought back bravely and limited Ghana’s chances of extending their lead, but they rarely troubled the home side’s defence, as the Black Stars managed to grind out the final minutes of the match to secure the three points.
Egypt gets the job done
Egypt beat Guinea Bissau 1-0 in Cairo, with Mohamed Hamdy’s early header proving decisive in a tense qualifier.
The Pharaohs got off to a strong start and took the lead after just 11 minutes when Ahmed Kouka sent a perfect cross into the penalty area, which was met by Hamdi, who fired a powerful header into the net.
This was the only goal of the match, as Egypt failed to turn their early dominance into a more comfortable result.
Guinea-Bissau’s performance improved in the match, but it struggled to create clear opportunities against the disciplined Egyptian defence.
Both teams received several physical warnings in the second half, while substitutions from Hossam Hassan’s bench aimed to maintain the slim lead.
