Four people were killed and 12 others were injured, four of them in serious condition, after a mass shooting in the US state of Mississippi.

The shooting occurred around midnight on Main Street in Leland, 120 miles (190 kilometers) northeast of the state capital, Jackson, the city’s mayor, John Lee, told CBS News, the BBC’s partner.

He added that four of the injured were airlifted to hospital. There were no suspects in custody.

Leland was busier than usual on Friday as the local high school was scheduled to play a homecoming football game, an annual American tradition, usually in the fall, when former students are welcomed back to celebrate school and community spirit.
