Just when you thought social media couldn’t get any weirder, here’s the company that brought you in ChatGPT launched a New social media platform. It’s named Sora, after the video-generating AI, and although it’s now in the App Store, you can’t just download it and start scrolling.
Here’s the problem: Sora is a social network for real people filled entirely with AI-generated videos. Yes, you read that correctly. The app’s disclaimer categorically states that there is nothing original on the platform, yet OpenAI wants you to use it to communicate with your friends.
To participate in this strange new experience, you need an invitation code from someone already inside. The codes started trickling in earlier this week, so if you’re trying to get past the velvet rope, here’s what to do.

Sora is available from OpenAI as an iOS app and through Sora.com.
How to get invite code for OpenAI’s Sora app
To get the invitation code, follow these initial steps:
- Download the Sora app from Apple App Store. Make sure to select the one with the navy and white cloud icon.
- Log in with your ChatGPT account or tap Use a different account.
- handle Notify me when access opens.
- In the pop-up window, allow Sora to send you push notifications.
OpenAI said in a mail It has begun the initial rollout in the United States and Canada and intends to quickly expand to additional countries. The company gives priority to Pro users who pay for access to Sora.
Once you have the invitation code, you can finish setting up your Sora account. You can then use Sora through the mobile app or website, and you’ll have access to four new invite codes to share with your friends.
(Disclosure: Ziff Davis, CNET’s parent company, in April filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that it infringed Ziff Davis’s copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.)
