For his part, Trump was frank in his belief that he deserved the award, claiming: “I don’t know what they’re going to do, but I do know this: No one in history has been able to solve eight wars in a period of nine months, and I stopped eight wars.” Despite his efforts, the Norwegian Nobel Committee made it clear that external pressures did not influence its decision. “The decision was made on Monday,” Friedness said, noting that the committee had already completed its selection.
The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas faces a dilemma
The ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, along with a potential peace agreement, has added further complexity to the Nobel Prize deliberations. However, Frednis stressed that any developments related to the Middle East peace process will only be considered for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
As the announcement date approached, bookmakers ranked Trump as the favorite, and even Russia threw its support behind his candidacy. This comes on the heels of a landmark ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, raising questions about whether Trump’s diplomatic efforts will seal his place in history alongside previous winners such as Barack Obama, who received the award in 2009.
Nominations for the 2025 Prize officially closed on January 31, but the implications of this year’s award extend far beyond the recipient, touching on international politics, global trade, and the very essence of peace itself.
