England coach Thomas Tuchel wants more fans after criticizing ‘silent’ fans at Wembley Stadium during thrilling match Friendly win over Wales 3-0.
Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and Bukayo Saka gave England a 3-0 lead within 20 minutes in a packed national stadium, but Tuchel was not impressed by the support of the fans.
“We did a very good job,” he told ITV. “We had an excellent first half, going 3-0 up very quickly but we could have been four or five ahead at half-time.
“Then we couldn’t score the fourth or fifth goal. The stadium was silent. Silent.
“We never got any energy back from the crowd and I think the players did a lot to get more from the crowd.
“So, it was difficult to keep everything going in the second half, but we put in an excellent performance and deserved the win. Next step in the right direction.”
Asked if he expected more from Wembley, Tuchel replied: “Yes, what more can you give in 20 minutes? Three goals, the way Wales attacked us and we didn’t let them escape.
“Even in their own half, winning ball after winning ball after winning ball. If after that for half an hour you only hear Wales fans, yeah, it’s a bit sad because I think the team deserves a huge support.”
Tuchel is certain England will have great support again in Latvia when World Cup qualifiers resume on Tuesday, just as he believes they will be supported all the way to the end next summer.
“Today we were 3-0 up after 20 minutes, passing ball after ball, and I wondered why the roof was still there?” He said: That’s all there is to it. “It’s nothing big.
“It would also have helped us in the second half in some moments to regain energy and get back into rhythm. It wasn’t like that today, so no problem.
“We will do everything again to be contagious. No problem.”
“Like I said, I really mean it, I’m sure we’ll help everyone, it’s on us. But today I felt a little down.”
