What is the new music about?

“&Juliet,” the production in which Burruss is joining, is a musical that puts a unique spin on Shakespeare’s famous play “Romeo and Juliet,” according to Variety.
The musical reimagines the classic tragedy by asking what would happen if Juliet had not died at the end of the original story. This musical is powered by the iconic pop music of famed producer Max Martin, featuring hits he has created for stars such as Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry, including “Since U Been Gone” and “Roar.”
‘&Juliet’ premiered at Manchester Opera House in September 2019 before moving to the West End in November of that year. At the 2020 Laurence Olivier Awards, the show received nine nominations and won three, including Best Actress in a Musical.
The show moved to Broadway in 2022 and was nominated for nine Tony Awards.

Burruss doesn’t take working on Broadway lightly

During a previous interview, Burruss reflected on why taking on these roles on Broadway — as an actress and producer — was important to her.
“In the opportunities I get, I always try to step up and make room for more opportunities for people like me. And for black people, people of color, and women,” she said. “We’ve had people come to New York to see a show (who’ve never been to Broadway before)… We’re not just waiting for people who already go to shows. We’re making our shows the destination.”

“I have big dreams, y’all,” she said. “You all know I want to win a Tony.”
