Peacemaker Season 2 drops the ball on one of the DC Show’s biggest subplots

Despite taking place in multiple dimensions, Season 2 of “Peacemaker” has a very tight story about several members of the ever-expanding Peacemaker team coming to terms with themselves and each other. Yes, parts of the story take place on worlds ruled by Nazis or man-eating candy goblins, but even that serves to deepen and bring the characters together. Where else but Earth-X could Judomaster (Nhut Le) and Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) have a heart-to-heart conversation that leads to… The former finally joined the right team? Would Vigilant (Freddie Stroma) and Langston Flory (Tim Meadows) have discovered their mutual fondness for animal facts if Flory had not been attached to the team while exploring the Quantum Storage Area? James Gunn knows how to make the madness serve the story.

However, there is one plot thread that Gunn seems to have left hanging. after The Peacemaker’s big battle in season 2ARGUS HIRE eagle hunter Red St. Wild (Michael Rooker) to shoot down the bird. In several episodes, the show devotes a lot of time to an increasingly bizarre cat-and-mouse chase between a crazy Red and a seemingly oblivious Eggly, as the eagle hunter becomes convinced that Eggly is actually the Master Eagle, a mythical entity that leads all eagles.

Although the idea is funny, Episode 6 of Season 2 of “Peacemaker” (“Ignorance is Chris”) reveals that Igli is actually the head of the Vulture and thus… The strongest member of the Peacemaker crew …But in the next episode, the whole show falls flat, and Egli goes back to his usual meat-for-lunch self. Let’s explore why Season 2 of “The Peacemaker” chose to abandon this arc.

While “Peacemaker” Season 2 abandons the Prime Eagle plot, the story is also inherently tied to Red. The character’s babbling about Eagle’s supposed powers is meant to sound weird and weird, which makes the revelations of his arc — first Reed’s mysterious powers, then the fact that he was right about the whole Prime Eagle thing — all the more entertaining. After the big reveal about Egli and Reed’s subsequent death, there’s really nowhere to take this story without deviating from the larger plot. Would it be fun to see more characters get spooked when Iggly randomly releases a flaming aura and dozens of Vulture minions? certainly. Will it serve the story? no.

Eagly is a relatively minor character, pursuing whatever course of action is the funniest, coolest, or most heartwarming in any given situation. The audience learns about Eagley’s secret powers, but Peacemaker (John Cena) and the 11th Street kids remain completely unaware, which actually elevates the character. Now, fans know that Egli He can He summons an army of vultures and deploys who knows what other legendary powers on a whim, which makes it exponentially more entertaining when he chooses to helplessly tap the refrigerator, beg for processed meat, or ride in the car with his head out the window, tongue hanging out like he’s a dog.

Likewise, Eagle’s moments that seem wiser and more effective, such as mopping the floor with various human opponents or showing affection to humans he appreciates like Peacemaker or John Economous (Steve Agee), make more sense with his secret status as Prime Eagle. Perhaps some storylines are best left unexplored… at least for now.
