The New York Giants dominated the Philadelphia Eagles 34-17 for the team’s first win over Philly since January 7, 2024. The loss marks the Eagles’ first losing streak since the 2023-24 season.
Mental errors were Philly’s undoing. They turned the ball over twice, gave up three sacks and only had a third-down conversion in the game.
At the same time, the Eagles were unable to stop the rookie pairing of quarterback Jackson Dart and running back Cam Scatepo. Dart had 195 passing yards, 58 rushing yards and two total touchdowns. Meanwhile, Cam Skattebo ran for 98 yards and three TDs on the ground.
The Giants had no answer for Eagles running back Saquon Barkley on the opening drive of the game. He picked up 31 ground yards on his first two carries of the evening, allowing Philly to connect on a 42-yard field goal attempt for a 3-0 lead. On the Eagles’ first possession, Barkley surpassed his rushing total from last week (30 yards).
New York started its first series with good field position thanks to a 37-yard punt return to get the ball closer to midfield. On their first third down attempt, quarterback Jackson Dart threw a deep pass to wide receiver Lil Jordan Humphrey for a 34-yard gain on his first catch of the season. That led to Jaxson Dart getting into the end zone for a 19-yard touchdown and a 7-3 advantage. Humphrey, who was elevated to the 53-man roster from the practice squad earlier today, finished the game with four catches for 55 yards.
After the Eagles won three and out, the Giants got back to the board again. Wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson made two catches for 61 yards and a touchdown to extend Big Blue’s lead to 13-3 after missing an extra point. It was the first time since 2020 that the Giants scored more than seven points in the first quarter of a game.
Philadelphia was able to respond, thanks in part to a brilliant 30-yard catch by wide receiver AJ Brown. As soon as the Eagles entered the red zone, quarterback Jalen Hurts threw an underhand pass at the line of scrimmage to tight end Dallas Goedert, who weaved his way into the end zone to cut the deficit to 13-10. With this result, Goedert has five touchdowns in his last four games.
After forcing a three-and-out to close out the first quarter, Jalen Hurts completed five straight passes for 68 yards to get down to the Big Blue three-yard line. From there, Philadelphia ran two consecutive push plays for a new set of downs on the one-yard line. After two touchdowns, the Eagles clawed their way to a touchdown and a 17-13 lead. Philly ended that streak with four straight rallies.
Giants wideout Jalen Hyatt made back-to-back catches for five and six yards to get New York to the Philadelphia 22-yard line with two minutes left in the first half. That set up running back Cam Skattebo’s four-yard rushing touchdown for a 20-17 Big Blue lead with 1:19 remaining in the second quarter. Entering the game, Hyatt did not have a single reception this season.
Philly’s offense took the field on its own seven-yard line without any timeouts. Although they managed to pick up 45 yards, the clock ran out following a nine-yard run by Jalen Hurts, effectively ending the first half.
After three straight plays to start the third quarter, the Giants’ offense bounced back due to some costly mental mistakes by the Eagles. A penalty for wearing a face mask followed by an illegal contact helped New York get into the red zone. In the end, Cam Schateppo weaved his way over the goal line for his second rushing touchdown of the evening to increase the Big Blue’s lead to 27-17. This was Skattebo’s first career game with multiple rushing TDs.
Giants edge rusher Brian Burns continued to build on an impressive campaign. He had two sacks in this game to bring his total to seven on the season, tying him for the league lead with the Denver Broncos’ Nick Bonito. His second sack killed the Eagles’ promising drive and forced a punt late in the third quarter.
The catastrophic moment for the New York Giants came as they were driving near the end of the third quarter. Jackson Dart went down with an apparent head injury before walking off the field into the blue medical tent. Fortunately, he recovered from his concussion and returned to the field for the Giants’ next drive.
On Philly’s next series, a 25-yard defensive pass interference put the Eagles up at New York’s 25. After entering the red zone, Jalen Hurts threw his first interception of the season, which was returned 68 yards to the Philadelphia 23-yard line with 11:25 remaining in the game. It was Hurts’ first INT in his last 305 regular-season passes.
The Eagles’ defense couldn’t get off the field all night as the Giants went 11-for-15 on third down attempts. A defensive pass interference penalty on third-and-8 led to Cam Skattebo rushing for a touchdown on the next play to put New York up 34-17 with 9:41 remaining in the game. Philly was just one-for-nine on third down tonight.
Facing a 17-point deficit from their own 11-yard line, the Eagles had no choice but to take the lead on fourth down. They easily converted that play to get out of their own red zone. Two touchdowns later, Jalen Hurts found Dallas Goedert wide open for a 36-yard touchdown. The drive ended in a turnover, however, when the Giants forced a fumble and recovered at their own 25 with 6:50 remaining in the game.
Once they got the ball back, the Giants ran out the clock to secure the win. It was Big Blue’s first win over an NFC East team in its last nine divisional games.
