Algeria became the 20th team to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup by defeating Somalia 3-0 on Thursday.

Two goals from Mohamed Ammoura and one from Riyad Mahrez secured a comfortable victory for Vladimir Petkovic’s side, a goal that saw them clinch Group G of the CAF qualifiers and their first finals appearance since reaching the round of 16 in 2014.

Uganda is four points behind Algeria in the group, and its hopes of qualifying for the playoffs were strengthened after its 1-0 win away to Botswana.

Mozambique’s hopes of catching Uganda in second place in the group were dashed after losing 2-1 at home to Guinea. The result left Mozambique three points behind Uganda, but with a much lower goal difference.

Liberia is still searching for a place in Group H after its 3-1 win over Namibia. The win moved Liberia one point behind Namibia with one match to play.
