Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman President Donald Trump is optimistic that the newly reached Gaza peace deal could bring “a chance for lasting peace” in the Middle East, praising the phase-one agreement on Thursday and crediting Trump’s leadership with ending the two-year-old conflict between Israel and Hamas.

“I think it’s an incredibly comprehensive plan,” Fetterman told US Newsroom.

“Now, Hamas is absolutely saying it’s committed to that, and of course Israel is committed to that now as well. But what’s also very important, is that all the surrounding Arab countries, whether it’s Egypt, Turkey, Qatar as well, have actually put pressure on Hamas, saying that this will be the best deal they can ever get, and that this terrible war has to end… So I’m actually optimistic that we have a chance this week to achieve lasting peace.”

“Thank God this terrible war will end, and these poor souls who have been underground for more than two years can return home. I guess I don’t understand why anyone would react otherwise.”

Fetterman has echoed the language of others since the news broke, suggesting that Trump may deserve a Nobel Peace Prize after securing the first phase of the peace deal.

Fetterman added that if Trump is also able to push for peace in the Russia-Ukraine war, then in his view, Trump deserves it. Nobel Peace Prize Recognition ends both conflicts.
