Victoria Beckham is finally addressing her checkered reputation

The fashion icon joked that she’s usually smiling on the inside, but fans never see it because her retired football star husband always makes her turn the wrong side of her face on the red carpet.

Chatter about Victoria Beckham’s “miserable” image has dogged her for years, dating back to pop’s early days when fans mistakenly viewed her calm, collected demeanor as a sign of unhappiness.

In her new Netflix documentary “Victoria Beckham,” the fashion designer admits she’s well aware of her reputation for appearing cold or unhappy, but she says there’s actually a humorous reason behind it.

Victoria shared that her allegedly “miserable” expression had less to do with the situation and more to do with positioning. She revealed that whenever she and David walked the red carpet, he always stood to her left, which is the same side she naturally smiles from.

So when photographers catch her from another angle, she says, she doesn’t seem to be smiling at all TMZ. “I’m smiling on the inside,” the star joked, adding that she looks “not so good” if she smiles from the wrong side.

As she reveals the secret behind her signature red carpet persona, her documentary will also highlight her journey as a designer, wife and mother, while briefly revisiting the whirlwind years that made her famous.

Explosion She notes that Victoria reflected on her time with the Spice Girls, the group that ruled the late ’90s with songs like “Wannabe.” She admitted that revisiting that chapter was emotionally heavy, saying that talking about those four years felt “almost like therapy.”

Victoria shared that it took her nearly two decades to feel comfortable facing this part of her life, explaining that being constantly defined was a difficult experience. However, she spoke warmly of her former bandmates, adding that she remains close to Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Mel B.

“I love the Spice Girls, and I’m so proud of everything we’ve done. I 100 percent wouldn’t be who I am today without the Spice Girls,” she said.

Before all the recent headlines, Victoria was preparing for an important new chapter, one that could see her officially become Mrs. Beckham.

Last June, her husband David Beckham was due to receive a long-awaited knighthood in King Charles’ birthday honors list, with Victoria standing by his side under her new title.
