1136 ET – While Canadian aluminum exports to the United States have declined sharply in the wake of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, there are hopeful signs of other markets opening up. Statistics Canada reports that while the United States remains the largest destination for Canadian aluminum exports, accounting for 83.4% of the total from April to August, aluminum exports to the Netherlands jumped 74.3% in 2025. Meanwhile, exports to Italy nearly doubled and exports to Poland rose fourfold. The Canadian government is seeking to diversify the country’s export markets, even though total merchandise exports to countries other than the United States fell 2% month-on-month in August, the third straight decline.
