Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to join the Indian national cricket team sooner than expected ahead of their much-awaited return to action. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were last seen in action for India during their victorious ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign in March 2025.

They have also been impressive in IPL 2025 for their teams, and even Kohli won his first trophy with RCB. They were also preparing for the tour of England, but suddenly announced their retirement from Test cricket just before the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy.

Now, they are only active in ODI cricket and are aiming to bid farewell to the international scene in the ICC World Cup 2027. However, Indian chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, has clarified that there is no guarantee whether the popular batsman will make it to the ICC World Cup 2027 squad.

Well, both Virat and Rohit have been named in the ODI squad for the three-match series in Australia, and they will have to prove that they are still two of the greatest batsmen in this format to remain in contention for the mega event. The Men in Blue will play a total of 27 ODI matches ahead of the 2027 ICC World Cup.

Amid doubts over how many matches the former Indian captain will play before the global event, good news has emerged ahead of the second and final Test against the West Indies, starting October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi.

In fact, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will join the national team in Delhi ahead of India’s upcoming tour of Australia later this month. Newly appointed ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer will also join his former captains in the national capital.

The Indian team is scheduled to depart in two batches on October 15, with one group flying in the morning and the other in the evening, depending on travel logistics and ticket availability.

Kohli and Rohit are expected to arrive in New Delhi either a day before departure or on the same day. India will first land in Perth to start a three-match ODI series against Australia on October 19, followed by a five-match T20I series.

“Virat and Rohit will land in the capital either on the day of departure or a day before,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI.

ODI, India vs Australia T20I series schedule

The second ODI will be played on October 23 at Adelaide Oval, followed by the third and final ODI on October 25 at Sydney’s iconic SCG. On the other hand, the five-match T20I series between India and Australia will begin on October 29 at Manuka Oval.

The second and third matches will be held on October 31 at the MCG and November 2 at Bellerive Oval respectively. The fourth and fifth matches are scheduled to be held on November 6 at Gold Coast Stadium and November 8 at The Gabba, respectively.

Notably, Indian coach Gautam Gambhir invited the entire Test squad for a team dinner at his Rajender Nagar residence in Delhi before the final Test against West Indies.
