On Tuesday’s episode of “First Take,” ESPN’s Paul Finebaum blasted Bill Belichick for his subpar 2-3 record, all three of whose losses have come against Power Four teams.

“We’re talking about Bill Belichick, who is the greatest NFL coach in history,” Finebaum said. New York Post. “He’s working toward becoming the worst coach in the history of college football. That’s how bad he is.”

The football analyst went on to say that there is currently “nothing to be happy about” in Belichick’s football program.

Finebaum also claimed that the legendary coach’s career so far has been a “huge disaster.”

More harsh remarks from Finebaum occurred during his weekly appearance on ESPN New York’s “The Michael Kay Show.”

He claimed that Belichick was now “an absolute laughingstock in college football” before declaring that the multiple Super Bowl-winning coach had been “washed out.”

Digging deeper, Finebaum also argued that Belichick hasn’t accomplished anything noteworthy on the field since parting ways with his star player, Tom Brady, during his tenure as coach of the New England Patriots.

Finebaum isn’t the only one to target Belichick in recent days. The father of a current UNC player also criticized the coach, accusing him of creating a “toxic environment” within the team.

“It all starts at the top, and the kids are affected,” one parent said in an interview with WRAL sports anchor Pat Welter. Explosion. “I don’t blame the players, I blame the leadership that created this toxic environment. There is an individual mentality. The boys are young, and they feed on it.”

Sources within the program also shared similar concerns, with some attributing the team’s rocky start to a “divided locker room.”

They also claimed that the six-time Super Bowl champion leads a “disjointed coaching staff” and struggles to maintain clear communication among stakeholders.

“There was no communication with the coaches and parents,” one parent said. “Nothing, zero, nothing. Not one email from the coach, one text message, one phone call, nothing.”

Sources claim some of Bill Belichick’s recruits are doing the right thing

Regarding how the alleged rift in the locker room began, a source claimed it began shortly after Belichick joined UNC in December 2024 and quickly brought in several new recruits.

These recruits reportedly had difficulty connecting with current players, as some believed they deserved different treatment.

“It started with recruits coming to work being entitled to certain things,” the insider said. “It was about them individually, not the team. It was about me and what I was going to do.”

In addition to the lack of cohesion, the team’s fortunes were reportedly affected by the supporting cast not sharing the same pedigree as Belichick.

“The lack of experience of the coaches is ridiculous,” the UNC insider added.
