“My message to the air traffic controllers who work for the Department of Transportation is to show up for work,” Duffy said. “You have a job to do, and by the way, those who showed up, I’m grateful for them and their service. But the bottom line is these controllers are feeling stressed, and they’re rebelling against this shutdown because they may not get paid.
“They work six days a week. They keep America working, and they’re not guaranteed a paycheck. They’re frustrated by it, so they don’t come to work.”
“Safety comes first,” he added, noting that the Ministry of Transport would slow down or stop traffic if air travel was not safe.
