Best laptop Can’t find this week’s big deal on Amazon. Not on Best Buy or Walmart either. Instead, in Dell.comYou will find Dell 14 Plus (6/10, WIRED Review) Selling for just $650. For a Windows machine, this price neatly classifies it as one “Budget laptop” But the specifications are anything but. It has 16GB of RAM, a terabyte of storage, and a screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. The average laptop at this price is the worst at almost everything.

In my own testing of this laptop, I found a lot to like about it. The processor used is Intel Core Ultra 7 258V, which is the main chip used in some devices Best laptopssome of which cost up to $1,000 more, including in Dell’s own lineup. One of the great features of this chip is the battery life, which I was pleasantly surprised by. You’ll easily get a full day’s work away from the outlet. Performance is more than adequate for most people, and it also has some great integrated graphics. The presentation is also very good. It’s colourful, and there’s a 90Hz refresh rate. I didn’t like the matte screen and plastic frames, but the panel itself is surprisingly high quality. I wasn’t a fan of this when it was $1099, but for $650? It’s heads and tails on the competition.

Compare it with Asus VivoBook 14 (6/10, WIRED Review), for example, is another “budget” laptop I’ve recommended in the past. It only has a 1920 x 1200 resolution screen 60 Hz refresh rate In fact, the color accuracy is bad. It has a sickly green tone that is hard to get around.

The only caveat is that when I reviewed the Dell 14 Plus, it had 32GB of RAM. There was no 16GB option and it is available now. Even with that difference, this configuration of the Dell 14 Plus is the best deal for a Windows laptop I’ve seen in recent memory.

So, yes, if you’re shopping for a Windows laptop, this is clearly the one to buy. The only exception I’ll make is if you’re looking for something with a larger screen. If this is you, I would refer you to Acer Swift 16 AI (8/10, WIRED recommends). It has many of the same specs as the Dell 14 Plus, but comes with a larger (and higher-resolution) display and – more importantly – a wider screen. It’s $800 thoughSo you’ll pay $150 more for this 16-inch laptop.
