England coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed that captain Harry Kane will miss the friendly match against Wales on Thursday due to a minor injury.
The UEFA Euro 2024 runner-up welcomes his neighbors to Wembley Stadium, whose tickets were filled on Thursday evening, before turning his attention to Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier away to Latvia.
Kane is expected to feature in Riga, but England’s all-time leading goalscorer will miss the first of the two matches due to a knock suffered late in Bayern Munich’s weekend win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Tuchel said: “Harry will miss the match.” “He got a kick in his last game for Bayern Munich.
“It was very painful to kick the ball, and it was very dangerous that he would get another kick and he would feel pain, so we gave him the opportunity to let everything calm down.
He added: “We are convinced that he will be ready for the match against Latvia.”
Tuchel confirmed that one of Jordan Henderson, John Stones or Declan Rice will captain the team at Wembley in Kane’s absence.
Tuchel has Ollie Watkins, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon to start in attack.
