In an August 2025 interview with WindingEsposito suggested that Edgar will return for the fifth season of “The Boys,” and his appearance in “Gen V” confirms this. During “The Boys” Season 5, Edgar will likely be a (convenient) ally of the anti-Homelander resistance. When Starlight last appeared, she stated that she had been on the run since Homelander’s forces captured the rest of the boys. Edgar’s bunker is exactly the kind of home base Annie needs right now.
Edgar certainly disapproves of Homelander’s system (if only because he’s human) and reveals in “Cooking Lessons” that he intends to regain control of the Bigfoot. And once he does, he wants Mary by his side. She has the same powers as his deceased daughter, so she could easily fill the role that Newman once played for Edgar.
Homelander’s coup likely made Edgar more convinced than ever that his plans, to transform Vought from a “supercompany” into a “proper” defense and pharmaceutical company, were the right ones. But remember, although Edgar is helpful and polite to Mary and her friends, he is just that no Good man. He allowed all kinds of shady actions, including assassinations, while he was head of Vought. In “Cooking Lessons”, he implores Mary to accept that she is stronger and more valuable than her friends, whom he considers disposable.
“When the dust settles, those who remain will remake the world,” Edgar tells Mary, recalling a similar speech Starlight gave about the return of the Force in Season 3 of “The Boys.” Speaking of power, could “The Boys” end with Edgar back at the top of the corporate world? “The Boys” is too cynical a show to have a purely happy ending. Edgar is less evil than Homelander (just as corporate capitalism is one degree less evil than fascism), but he’s still evil.
Stan Edgar being alive and empowered would be a fitting message for this story about how capitalism and conservatism are corrupt in the world; The mold gets so deep that its more entrenched symptoms cannot be treated. (For what it’s worth — and comic spoilers here — Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s original “The Boys” comic ended with Vought’s bigwig, James Stillwell, escaping any justice.)
Then there’s Zoe. While Edgar is generally too aloof for revenge, I think Zoe will want to get revenge on Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) for killing her mother. It’s unlikely that she’ll be the one to play Butcher, as that role seems to be reserved for Hughie (Jack Quaid) or Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), but she could become bloodier at Butcher’s hands.
“Gen V” is streaming on Prime Video with new episodes debuting on Wednesdays. The Boys season 5 is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video in 2026.
