After months of grocery bills, families may finally witness some comfort. A new report issued by Crisil Market Intelligence and Analytics shows that the average cost of vegetarian tricks decreased by 10% year on an annual basis in September 2025, while the cost of non -vegetarian ribs decreased by about 6%. This decrease, which is driven by the low prices of vegetables and legumes, reflects the broader trend of moderate food rates throughout India.
According to CRISIL data, the average cost of vegetarian rods reached 26.30 rupees in September, compared to 29.10 rupees in the previous year. The cost of non -vegetarian rhubs decreased to 52.60 rupees from 56 rupees in the same period. The cost of the tricks, calculated using the average component prices in the north, south, east and western India, provides a guidance scale for family spending trends.
“The decrease in the cost of the vegetable thickness was driven by the sharp decrease in the prices of vegetables and legumes,” said the Kersil report.
Vegetable prices decrease
Vegetable prices – the main cost of the third cost – recorded the largest correction. Onion prices decreased by 46% on an annual basis, due to the abundance of arrivals from the spring of Spring and increased local availability. The report pointed out that the slowing of onion exports to Bangladesh, which represents about 40% of Indian onion shipments, also helped calm the prices.
Likewise, potato prices decreased by 31%, as cold storage units liberated old stocks in large quantities, while tomato prices decreased by 8% due to the high number of expatriates to the markets. On a monthly basis, tomato prices fell by 21% in September, as it decreased to 42 rupees per kilogram from 53 rupees, thanks to the increase in supplies from the western and southern states.
The legumes are cheaper
The pulses prices decreased by 16% on an annual basis, supported by government measures that allowed the import of Bengali gram, yellow peas and black grams until March 2026. These imports have improved the local supply and reduced pressure on prices.
However, the decrease in the total food costs was partially compensated by an increase of 21% in vegetable oil prices and an increase of 6% in the prices of liquefied oil gas cylinders, both of which are driven by festive demand.
Booshan Sharma, director of Crisil Market Intelligence, warned that the current low price direction may not continue.
“The prices of onions may witness a moderate increase in the medium term, as heavy rains in August and September in major states such as Karnataka and Maharashtra led to delaying autumn cultivation and raising concerns about productivity,” said Sharma.
He added that the prices of tomatoes may also rise during the holiday season due to the turmoil related to rain in the main growth belts.
The non -vegetarian sees a more moderate effect
While the decrease in the prices of vegetables and legumes support the low non -vegetarian costs, the decrease was limited by 6% because the prices of bright chicken, which constitute about half the cost of the tricks, decreased by only 1% on an annual basis.
On a monthly basis, the vegetarian trick became 3 % cheaper in September, but the cost of non -vegetarian ritual increased by 3 % compared to August due to a 10 % jump in the prices of broiler chicken, due to supply restrictions and low production.
A break with risks
With inflation declining to its lowest levels in several months, the decrease in the costs of the trick indicates early signs of relief to Indian families months after price pressures. However, experts warn that weather disturbances, demand for festivals, and global commodity trends can affect prices in the coming months.
However, at the present time, the data indicates a small but meaningful rest period – a lighter bill for the ordinary Indian cuisine.
