The resignation of Minister Nigeri is accused of forging a certificate

Nigerian Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology resigned, Nangi, a few days after allegations that he had forged his academic credentials.

The resignation comes in the aftermath of a journalistic investigation that Nanagi claimed forged certificates to President Paula Tenobo during his ministerial appointment in 2023.

Presidential spokesman Bayu Onanuja confirmed the resignation of Nanji in a post on the X channel late on Tuesday, quoting the minister as saying that it was “the target of extortion by political opponents.”

Nagy denied the accusations of forgery and insisted that he graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nesuka (UNN) with a scientific degree in microbiology / biochemistry.

The allegations of forgery angered some Nigerians, after a two -year investigation conducted by the Primium Times.

Last week, it was reported that UNN told the newspaper that it had no records confirming that the minister had graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1985, as he claimed.

A senior university official told the newspaper that Naji was accepted in 1981, but he did not complete his studies and did not obtain a certificate.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) also said that the mandatory certificate of the national service provided by Nanagi in April 2023 is not verified.

The suspension or dismissal of a minister is a rare matter in Nigeria – and Nanagi is the second person to leave his position since President Tenobo took power in May 2023.

Last January, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and the then Poverty Reduced, Beta Edo, was suspended from work after popular anger due to a corruption scandal. At that time, 37 -year -old Dr. Edo denied any violations.

The predecessor of Tenobo, the late Mohamed Bukhari, had only sacked two ministers during his eight -year period.
