Maybe, I don’t know… you don’t want an uncomfortable situation like this, and if he stays fit, there won’t be any questions. You know Rohit and Virat will be part of this side.”

Robin Uthappa also backed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to continue their heroics in 50-over cricket, but warned against slowing down their responses. He said:

“I don’t see some kind of reduction in that sense, but it’s just about the feedback and the way these things work, how these things work because at the moment, they’re not playing a lot of cricket either. Probably the only cricket they’ll find themselves playing is IPL and One Day cricket, and maybe some domestic One Day matches if they come.”

Predicting Rohit Sharma’s ODI future, Robin Uthappa said that the modern-day batsman can only book a place in India’s ODI squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 if he works hard on his body and maintains his fitness at the highest level. He said:

“If he stays fit, I think he will be part of the next World Cup because, as I said at the start of the group, I think the templates for success in ODI cricket are clear for them. They know what suits them… However, Rohit Sharma is someone who has basically upped the ante even in one-day cricket, and I think in the last 3-4 years, he has played much faster, and I think that has been a bit of a turnaround from him.”

“Ideally, how he scored all his runs in ODI cricket his first fifty would have been around 60-75 balls, then the next fifty to much less, then the next fifty to much less… The shift in which he approaches one-day cricket has changed, and I think he may have found a sweet spot in that,” he added.
