Paramount has appointed Barry Weiss, a former New York Times, to lead CBS News, in the last step by its new owners to reshape one of the leading news organizations in America.

Paramount also purchases Free Press, she started the WEISS digital port after her extreme departure from the New York Times, in a report reported at $ 150 million (112 million pounds).

Ms. Weiss, who criticized the media to become very partisan, said she is excited to put her seal on CBS, which David Ellison seized earlier this year as part of a wider merging process with Paramount.

The deal drew the audit on the left because Mr. Ellison is the son of the technical billionaire and Trump ally Larry Ellison.

Mrs. Weiss, who started her career in working in the outlets of Jewish news, is famous for her support for Israel and her criticism of “canceling culture”.

Since its inception as news messages in 2021, it attracted 1.5 million subscribers, including more than 170,000 paid subscribers.

She drew attention to reports such as an article criticizing NPR by one of its former business editor, URI Berliner, as well as an investigation into some of the pictures that the main news means to clarify the famine in Gaza, which said that many of those distinctive suffered from other health conditions.

Among the shareholders are the big names, historian Niall Ferguson and Economist Tyler Quinn.

Mr. Ellison said that the appointment of Mrs. Weiss as the editor -in -chief was part of a greater effort to update the content in Paramount and made CBS “the most reliable name in the news.”

“We believe that the majority of the country is eager for balanced and fact -based news, and we want CBS to be its home,” he said.

More change in CBS

The conditions of the deal were not revealed. Paramount refused to comment on reports that the company paid $ 150 million in shares and cash.

Mr. Ellison referred his name as a Hollywood film producer such as Top Gun Marick, True Grit and World War Z.

He said his goal is to produce less political coverage, and therefore has the ability to reach all fans.

It was approved to seize Paramount by the Trump administration this summer, after the company agreed to pay 16 million dollars to settle a 60 -minute law with his presidential rival in 2024, Kamala Harris said that he was deceptive in favor of Democrats.

To win the approval of the deal, Mr. Elison agreed to install the independent grievance secretary in CBS to review the complaints of bias and adhere to the organizers that the programming will reflect a set of views.

He also said that the CBS political offer “Face the Nation” was no longer one of the edited interviews.

CBS News has a partnership agreement with the British Broadcasting Corporation, which means that news content, including video clips, can be shared. BBC News is independent, editorial on CBS.

In a note announced the deal, Mrs. Weiss said that she believes in President Paramount and his leadership team.

She wrote: “They multiply because they believe in news. Because they have courage. Because they love this country. And because they understand, as we do, America cannot flourish without common facts, common facts, and common reality.”
