Reading consumer confidence in September has declined to its lowest level since April, as it recorded the largest decline in a year, as fears of the slowdown in the labor market weighing Americans’ perceptions of the economy.
The consumer confidence index in the conference council decreased to 94.2 in September. The economists surveyed by FactSet expected the index to decrease to 96 out of 97.8 in August.
“The evaluation of consumers for working conditions has been much less positive than in recent months, while the evaluation of the availability of the current jobs for the ninth month in a row has decreased to reach the lowest new multi -year level,” said Stephanie Gwechadd, a global economist at the Conference Council.
