Government officials in favor of business said on Wednesday that the commercial negotiations of India with the United States are almost continuing.

On Monday, the Minister of Trade and Industry Bio Joyal said that New Delhi is negotiating with FTAS with a number of countries, including the United States, New Zealand, Oman, Peru, Chile and the European Union (European Union). He said that Qatar and Bahrain are also keen to negotiate trade agreements with India.

“The talks are taking place with the United States (for a commercial agreement). The talks are also ongoing with the European Union, New Zealand, Oman, Peru and Chile.”

Last week, Joyl led an official delegation to New York for commercial talks. After that, the meeting, India and the United States decided to continue negotiations for an early conclusion of a bilateral trade agreement useful for both parties.

Both sides hold constructive meetings on different aspects of the commercial deal. During the visit, the minister held meetings with the United States Commercial Representative (USTR) Jameson Jarir and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore.

The United States imposed a 25 percent mutual tariff and an additional 25 percent penalty on Indian goods entering the American market to buy Russian crude oil. Nowadays, a total of 50 percent of the additional import duty is imposed on Indian goods.
