Eric Adams ends his re -election to the New York City mayor

The mayor of New York City Eric Adams announced that he ends his offer to re -election, just five weeks before the voters went to the polls.

Adams said that “the ongoing media speculation” about its future and the decision of the campaign to finance the campaign in the city deprive him of matching public funds in his campaign.

His withdrawal narrows the race to Democrat Zahran Mamdani, former ruler Andrew Como, and Republican candidate Cortis Salwa.

Adams, who was elected in 2022 as a democratic, was working independently after being charged for alleged bribery and fraud. The indictment was later rejected towards the Trump administration.

“I cannot continue my campaign to re -elect you,” Adams said in a video posted on social media on Sunday.

“The ongoing media speculation about my future and the campaign to finance the campaign to block millions of dollars has undermined my ability to raise the funds necessary for a dangerous campaign.”

Adams did not support any of his competitors in the race. But he made comments in the withdrawal statement, which seemed to be addressed to Zahran Mamdani, the democratic candidate and the front man in the race.

“The great change is welcome and necessary, but beware of those who claim the answer to destroy the regime that we have built together over the generations,” he said. “This does not change, and this is chaos.”

Adams warned that the “malicious forces” pay the “divisive business schedules” in the city’s policy.

Mamdani himself spoke to MSNBC later on Sunday, saying that the city’s residents were “tired” by the Adams Policy brand, and standing beside his “vision of the city that New York residents can actually bear.”

A former police officer was previously seen as a rising star in the New York policy, Adams’s popularity declined due to the allegations of corruption, tensions with Democrats on immigration, and frustration with the high cost of living in the city.

In an indictment last September, it was claimed that Adams had accepted the gifts that total more than $ 100,000 (75,000 pounds) from Turkish citizens for preferences. He denied committing any violations and acknowledged that he was not guilty.

In April, the Ministry of Justice in New York ordered the charge of charges. But the controversy continued to chase Adams, leaving his re -election race.

His relationship with Democrats deteriorated during the Biden administration, as it criticized the immigration strategy.

Earlier this year, he said that he would be in independent – a step that succeeded in the competitive democratic preliminary elections, which Mamdani won.

Adams will serve the rest of his mandate, which ends on January 1. His name will remain in voting because the deadline for changing it has passed.
