Below is a copy of the interview with Senator Tim Kane, Democrat Virginia, which was broadcast on “confronting the nation with Margaret Brennan” on September 28, 2025.
Margaret Brennan: We are now moving to the democratic Senator in Virginia Tim Kane, who joins us this morning from Richmond. Good morning to you, Senator.
Sen. Tim Kane: Good morning, Margaret.
Margaret Brennan: You have some, 140,000 federal civil workers in your state, one of the highest numbers in the country. How much do you think that you will see the demobilization of collective workers if we go to the closure that the White House says are preparing?
Sen. Tim Kane: Well, and I think your correspondent Robert Costa said they welcomed him. We are really concerned about it, Margaret. When Ted Cruz forced the government’s closure in October 2013, Virginia was very badly damaged. When Donald Trump was forced to close the government in late 2018, in early 2019, Virginia was very bad. This will be the same. The only thing that the president’s threat to launch more people is that he is doing it already, and instead of the threat, he should only meet to negotiate. We are close to the deadlines during the Biden administration, but we have never closed the government because the president will sit with the leaders of Congress on both sides and will find a way forward. This is what we have been asking since the Democrats developed an alternative plan on the table on September 18, just sitting and talking to us, and finally agreed to do so tomorrow. But if you are reporting, it will be believed, it is a kind of entry into it, which reduces the incorrect expectations. It must do what the presidents do and say, we will find a deal to preserve the government of the greatest country open.
Margaret Brennan: Is enough of the deal, taking a short -term financing deal, for seven weeks, and we will continue to talk about health care subsidies that Democrats say are concerned about. I mean, is it really worth risk?
Sen. Tim Kane: Here I am thinking about this, Margaret. This is my personal point of view. We have to solve this health care problem. And the Republicans say the same. Mike Johnson said. Senator Corn said, Senator Holie said. Senator Morkovsky said that. We ask to repair a problem that even Republicans want to fix. I don’t think we must attach all the details with everything that is dotted and the TS traffic in order to do a short -term extension, but I want to see that the Republicans say, you are right. We can fix this, here is the way to find repair. And the second thing we need, which is very reasonable, we just ask, if we were making a deal, please no, the president, signing the deal, and then immediately the next day, he started taking money, and canceling the agreements I made yesterday. The deal must be a deal, and we must all agree that the Americans should not see that their health care is suffering, the high premiums, and the people lose insurance and approach the service providers. We have already announced service providers in Virginia that they are closing their doors because of the draft law that the Republicans went through in July, and this is happening throughout the country. Let’s do what is right by our voters and fix it.
Margaret Brennan: I want to ask you another specific question for Verginia, that is, what is happening within the judicial system. In August, the American lawyer for the western region of Virginia was Todd Gilbert, who suddenly resigned. Then earlier this month, Eric Sieber resigned the American lawyer in the eastern region of Virginia after failing to file a lawsuit against the Prosecutor in New York, Letitia James. What is happening here in the Virginia court system? Margaret?
Sen. Tim Kane: It is easy for the president to nominate American lawyers in Virginia, both with republican good deeds. Todd Gilbert was in the western province, the Republican spokesman for our MDP. She resigned as a project to make Trump’s date. President Trump team conducted an interview with these candidates, agreed to the candidates, nominated the candidates, then appointed them in the temporary position. But both of them were forced to go out because they said that their safety as two general plaintiffs would not allow them to rights to Donald Trump. In the case of Todd Gilbert, they wanted to force him to rid a long professional member in the West Province in Virginia who served under multiple departments and presidents. He refused to do so. In the Eric Sepert case, he refused to take over a criminal charge against Trump’s imagined political opponent when there is no evidence to support the charge. President Trump spends time pursuing enemies, in an attempt to find out a way to give $ 20 billion to a friend, the Argentine government, rather than dealing with the challenges we elected to confront them. Food prices rise. Building supplies rise. School supplies rise. Energy costs rise, health care costs rise, and Donald Trump appears to focus on the revenge campaign. You have to focus, man, this is an important task. It’s time to focus.
Margaret Brennan: When it comes to these cases in Virginia, did you talk to Cyber, have you spoken to Gilbert to understand the reason they feel resigned?
Sen. Tim Kane: I spoke to each of them after the resignation. These individuals I knew alike. I knew Todd Gilbert because of his legislative role, and I knew Eric Sepert well with a reputation. Once again, this Prosecutor Margaret, who, when the Biden administration moved to the Trump administration, was placed by the Trump administration in the role as temporary even before he recommended it, alongside our Republican Governor, Glenn Yongen, as I mentioned. So after being expelled, yes, I called and say that I would like to understand why you are forced to go out, and share ideas with me without entering anything about certain cases or specific communication they have with Trump administration officials. But I am convinced, and Verging are convinced. I traveled all over the state this week. People talk about this. Each of these individuals was the spine. They will not be for Donald Trump, they will not bring baseless cases, and we should not see this in any region in this nation. Sadly, President Trump focuses more on revenge on his voter service.
Margaret Brennan: Well, this eastern province has advanced with this accusation to former FBI director James Comey. Yes, it was just a two -page indict, and no evidence was publicly presented here, but it was convincing enough for 14 of 23 people sitting in the form of a major jury. Can you really say that there is no there?
Sen. Tim Kane: Well, a bare majority, as you know, Margaret, 23 people in the form of a major jury. They need at least 12 votes to obtain an indictment, and yes, they got their finger on the tape with 14, although the four- 23 will not agree on one of the charges paid by the American lawyer. So we will see what this issue is. It is strange that the indictment has very few facts, and found that it is very strange. I used to train in this court, and when the Prosecutor made a press statement after he was accused and said, we will follow the facts in this case. What the general prosecutors follow before they are accused, and they do not accuse, then they say, well, let’s see what the facts are. I think it has even revealed that this is a weak issue, which everyone in her office was telling her was a weak issue.
Margaret Brennan: You are in the role of armed services. I want to ask you quickly, I said that you support the establishment of a Palestinian state, and we saw at the United Nations last week, a large number of members who simply came out when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke, it was a statement tomorrow at the White House before that meeting, President Trump said this:
Vo Sot Donald Trump President: I do not allow Israel to include the West Bank. There was enough. It’s time to stop now, well?
Margaret Brennan: This is a strong statement. Do you know how the United States should impose this? How to force Israel to back down from annexation?
Sen. Tim Kane: Well, I felt very comfortable because the president said that, and you are right. I support what the United States voted at the United Nations in 1947, the State of Israel and the State of Palestine. One of those promises has been fulfilled. One did not, and we need to be on the path of a dedicated Palestinian state, as Hamas does not play any role in its rule. Until we find this path forward, we will continue to continue the bad violence for the Israelis, and a bad for the Palestinians, bad for the region. Therefore, I hope that the president, who, by all standards, has a strong relationship with Prime Minister Netanyahu, explaining that we are against annexation, and this is the proposal of 21 points that the president owns on the table, and it is very similar to the New York dialog box led by the French and the Saudis. It is different efforts, but they are trying to reach the same point, and it is a future situation for Israel and Palestine, where both can live in peace, and create stability in the region instead of violent courses. So I hope that the president will tend to do so at the meeting tomorrow. I felt comfortable with his comment. It will be a big mistake for Prime Minister Netanyahu to look at all these countries that were allies, saying that you need to change the path, and to withdraw his head in the shell, continue to go inside and continue to isolate Israel, rather than moving forward towards peace and more stability in the region.
Margaret Brennan: Senator Kane, thank you for seeing you today. We will return in a moment.
