An American citizen issued by the Taliban after his detention nine months

Officials say that an American citizen kept by the Taliban in Afghanistan for a period of nine months has been released after negotiations led by Qatarian intermediaries.

The man, known as Amir Amiri, is the fifth American who is released from detention in Afghanistan this year. He was on his way back to the United States on Sunday.
