Payroll processing company ADP said Wednesday that companies in the private sector added 122,000 jobs in December.

This number is lower than economists’ estimates of 140,000 jobs and lower than the previous month’s reading of 146,000 jobs.

“The labor market shifted to a more modest pace of growth in the last month of 2024, with a slowdown in hiring and wage gains,” said Nella Richardson, chief economist at ADP. “Healthcare stood out in the second half of the year, creating more jobs than any other sector.”
